PLAINER · COMPARISON

A free Sunsama alternative

Sunsama is a guided daily planner: you pull tasks in from your other tools, timebox them on your calendar and close each day with a shutdown ritual. It costs $17 a month billed yearly, or $22 billed monthly, after a 14-day trial.

Plainer is a plain workspace for your notes, documents and files, with a planner view built in. That planner covers the same daily loop (pick today’s tasks, give some of them a time, adjust as the day changes) and puts a project timeline above it. It is free to use. Open Plainer

Choose Plainer if

  • You want a daily planner without a monthly bill.
  • Your work is projects with steps and dates, and you want the timeline and today’s list in one view.

  • You want to shape the tool yourself: open a file as a table, board, calendar or timeline, write your own commands, or install templates from the Marketplace.

Choose Sunsama if

  • You need two-way calendar sync, or you plan in Outlook or Apple Calendar.
  • Your tasks live in Asana, Jira, Linear, Notion, Gmail or Slack and you want them pulled in for you.
  • You want native phone and desktop apps.
  • You want a guided planning and shutdown routine every day.
